The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the World Bank held a crucial mid-term review meeting for the Regional Electricity Access Project (REAP) in Abuja, Nigeria.
This meeting aimed to evaluate the progress, address challenges, and adjust strategies since the project started in 2018.
Experts from the ECOWAS Regional Coordination Unit and National Project Implementation Units of The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Mali attended the meeting to assess progress and make necessary adjustments to ensure the project achieves its goals by December 2025.
Ms. Elise Massan Akitani, the World Bank team leader, underscored the pivotal role of the mid-term review in optimizing project outcomes and expediting project implementation, highlighting the significance of each participant’s contribution.
The REAP, a project that has received a substantial USD 225 million investment from the World Bank, aims to extend electricity access to 578 localities across The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Mali.

The meeting’s outcomes are expected to lead to a more effective implementation of the REAP, advancing ECOWAS’s vision of enhancing electricity access across West Africa.
