Niger and Türkiye signed a declaration of intent for cooperation in the fields of petroleum and natural gas in Niamey, the capital of Niger, Nigerien television report on Thursday.
The deal was signed in Niamey Wednesday by Nigerien Minister of Petroleum Mahaman Moustapha Barke Bako and Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, according to the report.
On Wednesday, the Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahamane Lamine Zeine chaired a high-level meeting between Niger and Türkiye in Niamey, with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
He welcomed “the multifaceted support” that Türkiye provides to his country while hoping that Türkiye’s economic operators will come in large numbers to invest in Niger.
Niger’s cooperation with Türkiye covers such areas as health, with the Niger-Türkiye Friendship Hospital in Niamey opened in 2019, infrastructure with the renovation of the international airport of Niamey and military cooperation, as well as hotels and construction.
