WAFU ZONE B U-17: Black Starlets clinch semifinal berth after Benin win

The Black Starlets of Ghana triumphed over Benin in their final group match of the ongoing WAFU Zone B Under-17 Championship, held at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Playmaker Mark Kagawa opened the scoring, leading the Starlets to a 2-0 victory and securing the top spot in Group A.

Although Benin initially seemed poised to challenge the Black Starlets, Kagawa ignited the crowd with a brilliant looped shot, breaking the deadlock in the 20th minute.

Just two minutes later, Theophilus Ayamga delighted fans with a precise ground shot following a rebound, extending Ghana’s lead.

Benin nearly halved the deficit, but goalkeeper Michael Armah made an impressive save, stretching to his limit to deny a spectacular attempt.

The Black Starlets entered halftime with a 2-0 advantage, showing promise of more goals in the second half.

Despite winning several free kicks after the break, Ghana couldn’t capitalize on these opportunities, leaving fans eager for more. As Benin sought to reduce the deficit, the Black Starlets maintained their aggressive attack until the final whistle.

Ghana will now face the second-placed team from Group B in their next match, scheduled for Wednesday.
