Two young female referees, Sophia Azumah and Salma Iddi, who are graduates of the Catch them Young initiative, are set to be handed an opportunity to officiate at the WAFU B U-17 Girls Cup.

The Catch them Young is an initiative couched by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to identify, groom, and educate young talents between ages 13-16 to officiate juvenile matches within their jurisdiction.

The young officials are specially trained to oversee competitive games, small-sided games, recreational and amateur matches.

The program, which was launched in 2020, has seen some male young referees officiate games at the district and regional level.

Graduates Sophia Azumah and Salma Iddi become the latest beneficiaries of the initiative as they are set to officiate at the WAFU B Girls Cup, which commences on December 12 at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence, Prampram.

Sophia and Salma were given the all-clear at the Ghanaman Center of Excellence on Wednesday after a successful test trial.

The maiden edition of the WAFU B U17 Girls Cup will see five countries, Ghana, Nigeria, Benin, Niger, and Ivory Coast, vie for the ultimate after Burkina Faso and Togo pulled out of the tournament.

All games are scheduled to take place at the Ghanaman Centre of Excellence, Prampram
