The African Union Commission (AUC) and the Global Africa Business Initiative (GABI) have solidified their commitment to advancing development across Africa through a strategic partnership.
This alliance was formalized with the exchange of a Letter of Intent between Ambassador Albert Muchanga, AU Commissioner for Trade, and Sanda Ojiambo, CEO of the UN Global Compact, during the Global Africa Business Initiative event at the African Union’s 6th Mid-Year Coordination Meeting in Accra, Ghana.
The partnership aims to foster sustainable business practices across the continent, leveraging the UN Global Compact’s Africa Strategy. It seeks to establish a robust network of African companies dedicated to responsible business conduct. This initiative is pivotal in harnessing Africa’s economic potential while promoting inclusive and sustainable growth.
A key focus of the collaboration is to strengthen alignment with the AU 2024 Agenda for Education and GABI’s 2024 thematic priorities. It lays the groundwork for a broader, long-term partnership aligned with Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ambassador Muchanga underscored the partnership’s significance: “By joining forces with the UN Global Compact, we are reinforcing our commitment to sustainable business and economic growth across Africa. We aim to create a dynamic economic environment that supports inclusive progress and empowers African nations to achieve their full potential.”
The partnership between the AU and GABI marks a pivotal step towards fostering sustainable development, enhancing collaboration, and advancing mutual goals for a prosperous and inclusive Africa.
