The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso East by-election, Baba Jamal, has pledged to strengthen party unity and build on its electoral performance in the March 3 poll.

He made the remarks in Accra on Monday, February 23, after receiving a donation from Hajia Amina Adam, his closest contender in the party’s primaries.

Mr Jamal described the gesture as evidence that the party had put internal competition behind it.

“NDC is united. We are united for a common purpose. We are united to ensure that, whatever the outcome, we will increase our votes this time, inshallah. With this unity and the support from all the contestants, I hope and pray that all other supporters on the ground will learn from what we are doing here,” he said.

He stressed that the primary contest was over and that the party now had a single focus.

“The elections are over. We now have only one candidate, and that candidate is the one leading us into the by-election. I can assure you that I, Baba Jamal, will ensure that there’s unity in this constituency,” he added.

Jamal also underscored his commitment to fairness and inclusivity in managing party affairs.

“I will ensure that every member of the constituency executive or the party members will be treated equally and fairly. We are not here to hunt anybody. We are not here to divide the front. We are here to unite the front in the interest of Ayawaso East,” he stated.

Looking ahead, he said his campaign would prioritise development for the constituency.

“We are here to ensure that in two to three years from now, when we come back to the people, we have monumental development to point our hands to. That is why we are here,” he noted.

He concluded by expressing appreciation to Hajia Amina Adam and her team for their support.

“I thank Hajia very much. Please send my regards to her and tell her that she will surely see us before the elections. Thank you very much.”
