0 The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has assured Ghanaians that recent electricity disruptions affecting certain parts of Accra and other regions are localised incidents, not part of any nationwide load-shedding exercise.
The outages have been attributed to a combination of emergency and scheduled maintenance work by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), aimed at improving power reliability and service delivery.
These maintenance activities have temporarily affected several communities in the Greater Accra, Central, and Ashanti regions.
Spokesperson and Head of Communications for the Ministry, Richmond Rockson, confirmed on Citi FM on Monday, February 23, that Ghana has not engaged in load shedding for the past 10 to 11 months, highlighting that national electricity generation capacity has been strengthened.
“As a government, we have not been shedding load over the past 10 to 11 months. Our generation capacity has been enhanced.
“What we are doing as a government is that, even though we took over a deficit of 700 megawatts in December 2024, we have since reversed it. We’ve managed to ensure that our generation capacity is intact,” he said.
Mr Rockson also acknowledged that temporary power challenges had affected communities such as Achimota, Dodowa, parts of Akweteyman, Tesano, and Adenta, but assured that most of these issues have now been resolved, with residents expected to enjoy a stable electricity supply going forward.
