Iñaki Williams will be out for an unspecified period after sustaining a groin injury on Thursday night.

Williams was forced off by the injury in Athletic Club de Bilbao’s 3-1 win over Qarabag in the UEFA Champions League last night.

A club statement on Thursday confirmed the specific nature of the Bilbao captain’s groin injury.

‘‘Iñaki Williams was substituted in the 38th minute of yesterday’s Champions League match against Qarabag FK after suffering an injury to the adductor muscle in his right leg.’’

Although the statement gave no specific timelines for his recovery, it did indicate that the process had already begun.

‘‘He will begin his recovery process and is awaiting further developments.’’

The injury is the second of its kind that Williams has suffered this season.

Williams is now doubtful for Saturday’s La Liga match against Getafe, the Basque derby against Real Sociedad on November 1 at the Anoeta, and possibly the trip away to Newcastle United in the Champions League four days later.

He could also miss Ghana’s international friendlies against South Korea and Japan in November.

Ghana will take on South Korea on November 18 in the second of the two games in Asia. Prior to that fixture, the Black Stars will play Japan in the 2025 Kirin Challenge Cup on November 14.
