Ecobank Ghana commissions ultra-modern Digital Learning Centres for two schools

Ecobank Ghana has commissioned an upgraded ICT laboratory Digital Learning Centres for two schools in the country as part of the 2025 Ecobank Day celebration.

The schools are the Tetteh Ocloo School for The Deaf in the Greater Accra region and the Bishop Sam Memorial Basic School in Takoradi, Western region.

The Digital Learning Centres were equipped with 26 computers and accessories, including furniture for students and tutors.

In addition, the bank provided a projector, inverter and free internet connectivity for 3 years.

Speaking at a handing over ceremony, the Managing Director of Ecobank Ghana, Mrs Abena Osei-Poku said the bank has engaged some strategic partners to train the students and tutors who will use the centres.

“Our partners from Ghana Code Club have graciously agreed to facilitate train-the-trainer workshops for both tutors and students for an initial period of 6 months, focusing on web development, animation, robotics and artificial intelligence, among others”, he said.

She announced that the bank is also working to complete and commission four Garrison Educational Centres in Kumasi before the end of the year, as well as break ground for a similar centre at the Methodist School for the Blind – Wa in the Upper West region.

She stated that the completion and handing over of the projects will bring to six, the total number of Digital Learning Centres commissioned by Ecobank Ghana over the past three years, from 2023-2025.

She expressed the bank’s gratitude to the Ghana Code Club for their support and collaboration.

“This year in particular, they are helping to make the use of assistive technologies possible, ensuring inclusive education is a reality for our future leaders with hearing or visual impairment. Thank you very much, Ghana Code Club”, she said.

On her part, the Founder and CEO of Ghana Code Club, Mrs. Ernestina Appiah said the design and setup of the centres offer more than just computer skills.

“The impact of these centres goes far beyond computer skills. They will nurture a generation of young innovators and problem solvers who can apply technology to address real-life challenges from community development to entrepreneurship”, she said.

Expressing his appreciation, the Headmaster of the school, Mr Isaac Arthur said the ICT centre will transform the educational journey of the students.

He thanked Ecobank Ghana for selecting the school and providing it with modern day facilities that will improve the skills of the students.

The Ecobank Day celebration

The Ecobank Day, is an occasion observed by the bank in all countries it operates in.

It is also Ecobank’s Group-wide flagship social impact initiative, led by the Ecobank Foundation.

It provides an opportunity for the bank to positively impact the societies it operates in by identifying Africa’s underserved but deserving communities to support them.

The day was observed across 33 countries where the bank operates.

Over the past three years, Ecobank Ghana has taken meaningful steps to support children’s education by refurbishing and equipping ICT laboratories in selected deprived schools and turning them into Digital Learning Centres.

The theme for the Ecobank Day 2025, is “Enabling Inclusive Learning for All”.

  • Tetteh Ocloo School here at Adjei Kojo, – 2025 and
  • Methodist School for the Blind, in Wa…which will be the last stop of our three-year campaign, also 2025.
