The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation following the assault of a police officer by a commercial tricycle rider in Garu, along the Garu–Nakpanduri road.

The incident occurred on 6th October, 2025, during a routine stop-and-search operation being conducted by the police alongside Community Protection Assistants (CPAs).

According to a statement issued by the police, a tricycle carrying sacks of groundnuts with passengers precariously seated on top was intercepted for inspection.

When the officer instructed the rider to stop and park properly, the suspect reportedly became aggressive and proceeded to attack the officer before fleeing the scene on his tricycle.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large.

The Upper East Regional Police Command condemned the assault and assured the public that efforts are underway to arrest the suspect and ensure he faces the full rigours of the law.

The public has been encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement during routine checks, which are intended to ensure safety and security on the roads.
