Accra, Oct. 15, GNA – Fidelity Bank Ghana has inaugurated the renovated facilities at Ogome Anglican Basic School in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.

This completes the Bank’s commitment to build or renovate 15 basic schools in underserved communities nationwide.

The project, implemented in partnership with non-governmental organisation – Pencils of Promise, under the Bank’s Orange Impact Initiative to improve learning environments and access to educational infrastructure.

Mr Simon Adu-Gyamfi, Chief Support Officer of Fidelity Bank Ghana, stated at the inauguration: “In 2022, as part of our 15th anniversary, Fidelity Bank launched the Orange Impact Initiative with a simple commitment: to build or renovate 15 modern basic schools in underserved communities across Ghana.

“Today, Ogome Anglican Basic School becomes the 15th and final school under that commitment. We began this at fifteen years old. We finish it at twenty.”

The facilities provided at Ogome include a newly constructed two-unit kindergarten classroom block with an office and store, and a renovated six-unit primary classroom block, also equipped with an office and store.

Other facilities are a library, a computer centre, an eight-unit water closet facility, a four-unit urinal block and a 250-litre water storage tank.

The completion coincides with the Bank’s 20th anniversary, being celebrated under the theme “Twenty Years of Audacious Steps”.

Before the completion of the Ogome project, the initiative had benefited 5,577 pupils and teachers, including 2,452 girls, across 14 schools nationwide.

Mr Adu-Gyamfi said the initiative addressed key challenges affecting basic education, which included inadequate classroom infrastructure, poor sanitation and limited learning resources.

He commended Pencils of Promise for its financial and technical support, as well as traditional authorities, elders, teachers and parents for their contributions to the successful completion of the project.

Mr Freeman Gobah, Country Director of Pencils of Promise, described the intervention as “an investment in the future of children and the wider community”.

He said since the organisation began operations in Ghana in 2012, it had constructed 210 classroom blocks across three regions, benefiting more than 50,000 learners.

Mr Gobah emphasised the importance of corporate partnerships in improving educational infrastructure and delivering sustainable outcomes for learners.

As part of its 20th anniversary commitments, Fidelity Bank also announced plans to install solar power systems in 20 community hospitals nationwide to support reliable electricity supply for essential healthcare services.

Mr Francis Addo Akumatey, Municipal Chief Executive for Yilo Krobo, urged the School’s management, teachers and pupils to maintain the facilities properly to ensure their long-term use.

The inauguration was attended by officials of the Ghana Education Service, the Yilo Krobo Municipal Assembly, the Anglican Church, traditional authorities, educators and community members.
