BUSAN — “Take a slow, deep breath. Let the aroma of neroli, sandalwood and lavender release every bit of tension held in your body.”
As dusk settled at 6 p.m. on Oct. 2, Paradise Hotel Busan unveiled a sanctuary of quiet renewal. Against the dramatic sweep of the autumn sea and a fading horizon, the hotel introduced a specialized wellness experience designed to blend thermal spa immersion with deep meditation.
Held as an intimate gathering for 10 members, the “Ocean Healing Ritual with the Autumn Sea” began with a simple act: An instructor gently placed a few drops of aromatic oil onto each participant’s open palms.
In the crisp evening air, participants rubbed the fragrant oils into their hands, smoothing away the knots in their necks and shoulders. Through a series of gentle yoga postures, they began to release the weight of the day, restoring physical and mental equilibrium.

The initiative is part of Paradise Hotel Busan’s ongoing effort to design wellness experiences grounded in the season and its coastal setting. In collaboration with Amorepacific’s ultra-luxury skin care brand AP Beauty, the hotel launched its signature “Spa-covery,” a hybrid of “spa” and “recovery” designed to combine traditional thermal bathing with active physical and mental restoration, at Cimer, its oceanfront outdoor hot spring.
The concept weaves mindfulness practices like yoga and sound healing into open-air bathing. Once the yoga session drew to a close, guests stepped into the adjoining outdoor baths. Immersed in 39-degree Celsius thermal waters, they felt the soothing heat contrast with the cooling touch of peppermint oil, all while taking in sweeping vistas of Haeundae’s coastline. As a sea breeze drifted across the deck, participants held clear, glass cups, first savoring the warm, floral fragrance of chrysanthemum tea before taking deliberate, mindful sips.

Then came the resonant notes of the singing bowls. Under a fiery sky, the deep vibrations of crystal bowls rippled through the air, followed by the delicate chime of wind bells. Tilting an ocean drum back and forth, the instructor sent tiny beads rolling against its textured surface, perfectly recreating the rhythmic murmur of gentle waves against the shore. In that singular moment, time seemed to stand still, inviting complete immersion in the present.
The open-air spa at twilight is without question Paradise Hotel Busan’s crowning glory. A series of secluded pools maintained at distinct temperatures are bathed in soft, shifting ambient light, creating an atmosphere of cozy luxury.
“It was so much more than just soaking in a pool with a view,” said Kim Hyun-kyung, 59, who attended the 50-minute session. Having previously enjoyed a hotel-hosted coffee workshop led by a master barista, Kim noted that this unique experience proved equally memorable.

Across the global hospitality industry, wellness offerings that foster emotional well-being alongside physical restoration have evolved from boutique novelties into core luxury offerings. Paradise Hotel Busan plans to expand its program portfolio by leveraging its prime beachfront location and the rhythm of the seasons.
In April, the hotel partnered with activewear brand Vuori for the “Sunrise Vitality Run,” guiding guests along the cherry blossom-lined trails of Dalmaji. By August, it was hosting dynamic “Beach Volleyball Wellness Classes” directly on the sands of Haeundae.
Looking ahead, Paradise Hotel Busan plans to broaden its slate of experiential guest offerings. In addition to seasonal wellness activities, the property serves as the official headquarters hotel for the 31st Busan International Film Festival, hosting a series of premier events.
The shift toward wellness tourism reflects a rapidly growing market demand. According to data released by the Korea Tourism Data Lab in September, foreign tourist spending on medical and wellness services in Busan reached 92.08 billion won ($68 million) between January and August, accounting for 10.5 percent of total foreign tourism expenditure in the city. That figure represents a nearly twofold increase compared to the 50.19 billion won recorded over the same period last year. Driven by travelers prioritizing holistic restoration, hoteliers are moving swiftly to deepen their wellness offerings.
“This ‘Ocean Healing Ritual’ was crafted to deliver a moment of recovery unique to Busan by bringing together Haeundae’s autumn sunsets, Cimer’s premier spa facilities, and guided meditation,” said an official for Paradise Hotel Busan. “We will continue to curate distinctive wellness content that reflects the true spirit of our location, helping guests reclaim harmony in body and mind.”
