The 80th anniversary celebration of the E.P. College of Education (AMECO) has been launched at the E.P. Church Elorm Parish at Ho-Bankoe in the Volta Region with pomp and splendour.
The celebration, slated for October this year at a date yet to be decided, is on the theme: “80 Years of Excellence in Teacher Training Education; Reflecting our Legacy and Shaping the Future”.
The Ho West District Chief Executive (DCE), Prosper Francis Dusey, who launched it, said AMECO had over the decades produced teachers of substance who continued to contribute to national development.
He said teachers were the foundation of every profession and AMECO definitely deserved the support of all and sundry to soar to greater heights in its mandate.
Mr Dusey said AMECO’s high moral and academic standards, as well as discipline, were unmatched, making it tower among colleges of education.
The Principal of the college, Dr Dickson Tsey, said the celebration also reflected the history and sacrifices, resilience and hope AMECO represented.
“AMECO has contributed to education in Ghana through competent teachers, who are serving in Ghana and far beyond,” he said.
Transformation
Dr Tsey said the college had witnessed significant transformations in recent times, taking new pedestals in development.
For instance, he said, through internally generated funds (IGF), AMECO had constructed a six-unit two-bedroom staff block.
Through IGF, he said, the college built a new administration block.
He said a new lecture hall complex project was yet to start on the campus under the Ghana Education Trust Fund.
He appealed to the college alumni, corporate bodies, non-governmental organisations, and public-spirited individuals to support the AMECO in various ways towards the success of the celebration.
