Owner of the Division 3 side, Taking over FC Godfred Akoto Boafo has welcomed the decision by NPP Flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to construct 100 astroturf  pitches across the country but raised concerns over its quality.

Even though the football fraternity is excited about the news, concerns deepen over the quality of the Astroturfs being constructed by the government.

In an interview with Citisports, Godfred Akoto lamented the poor quality of Astroturfs currently available in Ghana.

I do not for the life of me understand why in proposing 100 pitches, not necessarily, I should not have been a 100 astroturfs but a 100 pitches and perhaps a mix of the pitches.

so we would have maybe 60 grass pitches, and 40 astroturfs and then mix it up. ”

Even with the astroturfs, this is where my biggest problem lies, it has been with the quality of the pitch itself because there are different grades of turf for astroturf. ”

For some strange reason, we seem to have fallen back on the lowest grade of the turf in what we are doing in Ghana, so the same turf that people are using for weddings as decorations, as a carpet in their living rooms is the same surface that is been laid on the on these astroturfs.

Meanwhile, it is common knowledge that there are higher quality grades of turf that perhaps will last longer and are safer to use. “

Among the potential beneficiaries of this initiative is the Keta-Anlo Sports Complex which took the bold step of securing 15 acres of land for the construction of the Keta-Anlo Sports complex in the Volta region.
