0 Asante Kotoko have re-entered the Ghana Premier League title race following a dramatic victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak.
In a season marked by ups and downs, Kotoko secured a crucial last-minute win in their matchday 13 encounter of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
Albert Amoah’s sensational 95th-minute goal sealed the three points for the Porcupines, capitalizing on a defensive mix-up between Kelvin Osei Asibey and goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to settle the intense contest.
Before the game, Kotoko sat 8th on the league table with 18 points, five points adrift of then leaders Bibiani Gold Stars.
However, this victory propels them to 6th place with 21 points, just three points shy of league leaders Heart of Lions, who continued their impressive campaign under Bashir Hayford.
With 19 games remaining, and a return to the Baba Yara Stadium, Kotoko’s head coach, Prosper Nartey Ogum, is optimistic about their chances.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Ogum expressed his satisfaction with the team’s turnaround and credited their collective effort.
“The coaches and the players came into an agreement as to what to do at training and also what they want to do in a game and it gives us a platform where we are all ready to work together and that has actually brought the turnaround”,” Ogum said.
Kotoko’s season so far includes six wins, three draws, and four losses, with 11 goals scored and nine conceded. Their top scorer, Albert Amoah, who joined from Division One League side Great Olympics, has netted seven goals.
The Porcupines’ resurgence, combined with their home advantage at Baba Yara, positions them as strong contenders in the title race.
