Presidents and Executive Secretaries representing Africa’s 8 Regional Economic Communities (RECs) convened on Saturday in Accra for the 5th biannual meeting of their coordination platform, held on the sidelines of the Executive Council and the semi-annual Summit of the African Union.
Chaired by Dr Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission and Chairman of the RECs platform, the meeting saw the participation of officials and delegations from prominent regional bodies, including the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD), the East African Community (EAC), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The gathering aimed to strengthen collaboration and coordination among the RECs, focusing on regional integration, economic development, and security across the African continent.

Discussions encompassed strategies to enhance cooperation in trade, infrastructure development, and conflict resolution, reflecting the RECs’ pivotal role in advancing Africa’s socio-economic agenda.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue fostering synergies among the RECs, underscoring their collective efforts towards achieving sustainable development and prosperity across Africa.
