The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Network concluded its 4th Annual General Meeting with a series of resolutions aimed at boosting intra-regional trade and economic integration across West Africa.
Key among the resolutions is the commitment to organize regular trade fairs to promote collaboration among ECOWAS member states and stimulate regional economic growth. Participants also agreed on the inclusive selection of value chains to enhance economic development, create jobs, and improve competitiveness.
Addressing infrastructure challenges, the meeting emphasized implementing measures to enhance regional infrastructure and logistics services. This includes reducing trade barriers, streamlining customs procedures, and improving transport networks to facilitate efficient trade operations.
Dr. Kolawole Sofola, Director of Trade at the ECOWAS Commission, expressed gratitude for the adoption of these resolutions and stressed their importance in promoting intra-regional trade. He congratulated Modou Mbene Gueye, Director General of the Senegalese Export Promotion Agency, and Ousainou Senghore, Director General of the Gambian Investment and Export Promotion Agency, on their appointments as President and Vice-President of the ECOWAS TPO Network for 2024-2025.
The ECOWAS region, spanning 5.2 million square kilometres and comprising 15 member states, aims to deepen economic cooperation and integration to improve living standards and promote stability across West Africa.
