Residents of Effiakuma Zongo in the Effia Constituency of the Western Region have heaped tons of praises on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate, Isaac Boamah Nyarko, following the desilting of major drainage systems in the area.
The residents praised the legal practitioner-cum-tax expert for his initiative at ‘Kobi Bar’ and its vicinity.
They said they usually contend with flooding during the rainy season due to a weak drainage system and purported poor planning.
They were, therefore, happy over the weekend when the NPP PC single-handedly hired an excavator and also led some party activists to desilt choked gutters in the community to avoid flooding.
“We are sure an exercise will prevent floods in the event of a heavy downpour. This Zongo community will vote massively for Lawyer Boamah and Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, come December 7,” they remarked.
Speaking to journalists later, the Effia Constituency NPP Parliamentary Candidate revealed that the exercise was in collaboration with Zoom Lion Ghana Limited and other stake holders.
He said it was aimed at ensuring that the drains and gutters are free to allow easy flow of water to ward off floods which destroy properties at Kobi Bar and other areas in the Zongo area.
He mentioned that he has also initiated moves to ensure that in the next two years, areas in the constituency facing major sanitation and drainage difficulties will see similar exercise to ensure sanity and good health.
He emphasised the significance of cleanliness in fostering a healthy environment and driving socio-economic development.
“Prior to the exercise, I had several engagements with the residents to among other things educate them on how they could also help prevent floods by not throwing rubbish in the gutters,” he added.
He was very hopeful that if the residents were able to adhere to the advice and other preventive measures, the Constituency will become the cleanest in the Region.
