Member of Parliament of Assin Central Constituency and a key contender to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in the NPP flagbearership race, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has called on his supporters to rally behind Dr Bawumia going into the December 7 general election.

Kennedy Agyapong shared the concerns of his supporters, expressing regrets for not informing them of his decision to join the party’s flagbearer, Dr Bawumia, campaign in Kumasi.

“It didn’t go well with some of you, and I want to apologise for not informing you before I went on the campaign tour,” Mr Agyapong wrote on on Tuesday.

He reassured the NPP that he remained committed, dispelling rumours of his resignation or intentions to run as an independent candidate.

Additionally, Mr Agyapong noted that, with the presidential primaries behind them, unity must prevail within the NPP.

“As long as I am a member of the party, irrespective of what happened in the presidential primaries, I believe it is best for all of us to come together and rally support behind the party. I urge my supporters to use the occasion of my birthday to reconcile.

“I also appeal to the supporters of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to reciprocate the same goodwill I am extending on behalf of my supporters. I plead with both sides to unite and rally behind Dr. Bawumia and the NPP,” he added.

NDC is not a viable option – Agyapong

Addressing traders at the Kejetia Market in Kumasi, Mr Agyapong encouraged the people of the Ashanti Region to cast their votes for Dr Bawumia, stressing the NPP’s commitment to Ghana’s development.

Also, Mr Agyapong dismissed the assertion that the ruling party has lost touch with the people of the Ashanti region, the party’s supposed stronghold.

He emphasised the enthusiastic reception that the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, received during his recent visit to the region as evidence of the party’s sustained popularity.

“As a businessman and politician, I understand both politics and business. I acknowledge the current hardships, but when you vote, remember that the NDC is not a viable option—they are very dangerous.

“Be cautious. Under the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government, we’ve covered fees under Free SHS and even provided uniforms for your children.

He described the NDC as “very dangerous.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received an enthusiastic welcome from the residents of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region as he embarked on a three-day campaign tour.

The tour, aimed at consolidating support ahead of the 2024 elections, saw massive crowds gathering to greet the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate.
