The Phobians made a flying start, taking the lead just two minutes into the game through Ransford Mensah, who found the back of the net to give the home side an early advantage.

Hearts continued to dictate proceedings and doubled their lead in the 25th minute when experienced forward John Antwi scored to put the hosts firmly in control before the break.

Antwi returned to haunt the visitors shortly after the restart, completing his brace in the 48th minute to extend Hearts’ advantage to three goals and put the result beyond Heart of Lions’ reach.

The victory was an emphatic response to Hearts’ 1-0 defeat against Debibi United in their previous league outing, which had ended a four-match unbeaten run.

Hearts went into the encounter sitting third on the league table with 17 points from nine matches, while Heart of Lions occupied 12th position with 11 points. The visitors had also ended a three-match losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Bechem United in their previous fixture.

However, the Kpando-based side struggled to contain the Phobians, who maintained their impressive home form at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Abdul Karim was named the NASCO Man of the Match following an outstanding individual performance for Hearts of Oak.

The victory takes Hearts of Oak to 20 points after 10 matches, strengthening their position in the title race as they continue their pursuit of the league leaders.

The result also provides a timely boost for head coach Nebojsa Kapor and his players ahead of their Matchweek 11 trip to face FC Samartex 1996 next weekend.

Heart of Lions, meanwhile, will look to recover when they host Dreams FC in their next league assignment.
