0 Accra Technical University (ATU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Higher African School of Information and Communications Technologies (ESATIC) of Côte d’Ivoire to strengthen academic collaboration, student exchange and joint research.
The agreement was signed during the maiden international flag-raising ceremony held at ATU, which brought together diplomats, university leaders, international students and representatives of partner institutions.
The event formed part of efforts to deepen internationalisation in higher education and promote cultural exchange, academic mobility and innovation-driven partnerships across Africa and beyond.
Management
It was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions, including the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Ghana, Mohamed Kai Samba, as well as the management of ATU and officials from ESATIC.
Speakers at the ceremony underscored the role of universities in building global citizens through exposure to diverse cultures, academic systems and professional opportunities.
The event also highlighted ongoing efforts by ATU to host international students and expand opportunities for academic and cultural exchange.
Partnerships
Speaking at the ceremony last Tuesday (June 9), the Vice-Chancellor of ATU, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, said the university was expanding its international footprint through partnerships across Africa, Europe, Asia and North America.
He added that the university was promoting student and staff exchanges, joint research, dual degree programmes and international internships as part of its internationalisation strategy.
Professor Acakpovi stated that the institution’s vision was to become one of Africa’s most prepared technical universities, stressing that collaboration with global institutions was now essential for academic growth and competitiveness.
Call for unity
For his part, the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone to Ghana, Mr Samba, described the flag-raising ceremony as a symbol of unity, diversity and shared aspirations among nations.
He said international students played a critical role in promoting cultural understanding and building bridges between countries.
He encouraged students to remain disciplined and focused, noting that their success abroad contributes to national development and regional integration.
Mr Samba also reaffirmed the strong relations between Ghana and Sierra Leone, particularly in education and cooperation under ECOWAS.
