In a demonstration of her commitment to sports development and excellence, Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, Patience Baffoe-Bonnie hosted officers and athletes of the Ghana Prisons Service armwrestling team to a special luncheon in Accra last Tuesday.
The event brought together officers, athletes, referees, and officials of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, including President Charles Osei Asibey and Vice President Kofi Addo-Agyekum.
The luncheon was organised to celebrate the impressive performance of the Prisons armwrestling team at the recently concluded 15th Africa Armwrestling Championship held in Borteyman and to motivate the athletes ahead of future competitions.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie commended the athletes for their discipline, dedication, and commitment to excellence, noting that their achievements continue to project the image of the Ghana Prisons Service both locally and internationally.
She described sports as an important avenue for promoting unity, fitness, teamwork, and mental toughness within the security services and encouraged the athletes to remain focused and strive for greater success.
During the luncheon, the athletes presented medals and honours won at various competitions to the Director-General in appreciation of her continuous support and encouragement.
Those who presented honours included Prince Affum, Henry Otoo, Daniel Acquah, Mabel Yeboah, Rashida Abubakar, and referee Frema Abigail.
Officials of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation praised the Ghana Prisons Service for its growing investment in armwrestling development and described the Prisons team as one of the country’s strongest institutional forces in the sport.
They noted that the Service has consistently produced some of Ghana’s top armwrestlers and continues to contribute significantly to the growth and popularity of armwrestling in the country.
The luncheon also provided an opportunity for interaction between management and the athletes, with discussions focused on improving performance, nurturing talent, and preparing the team for upcoming national and continental championships.
