The 28th Shanghai International Film Festival officially opened on June 12, with renowned Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-wai taking on the new role of Jury President of the festival’s Golden Goblet Awards. In a media interview, Tony Leung spoke about the joys and challenges of his new role, noting that he treasures exchanging diverse film perspectives with global jurors. He also shared that watching 12 films within a limited time may be exhausting.
Regarding cross-cultural communication in international co-productions, he pointed out that universal human emotions – including loneliness and affection – transcend national borders. Moreover, he keeps close tabs on films from the Chinese mainland thanks to regular releases in Hong Kong and has maintained a weekly cinema-going habit.
