0 The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has officially commissioned the meter manufacturing facility of MBH Power Ghana Ltd., describing it as a major boost to Ghana’s energy sector and industrial growth.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony, Dr Jinapor said the establishment of the plant marks an important milestone in strengthening the country’s electricity value chain.
He noted that the commissioning presents opportunities for innovation, job creation and expanded local participation in the energy industry.
According to the Minister, accurate and reliable metering remains the backbone of efficiency, transparency and revenue assurance within the electricity supply chain, from generation through transmission and distribution to the final consumer.
Dr Jinapor explained that without proper metering, utilities are unable to effectively account for power supplied, measure losses accurately or ensure fair billing for customers.
He observed that for many years Ghana has relied heavily on imported meters to meet domestic demand, resulting in capital outflows and limited local involvement in a critical segment of the sector.
“With the establishment of MBH Power’s manufacturing plant here in Ghana, we have taken a bold step towards local production,” he stated.
He added that the initiative will reduce dependence on imports, retain value within the economy, create skilled and semi-skilled employment, and build local technical capacity through technology transfer. The Minister emphasised that local meter manufacturing aligns with government’s reform agenda, which prioritises improved metering, reduction of commercial and technical losses, enhanced revenue mobilisation and expanded electricity access.
Dr Jinapor reaffirmed government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for businesses in the energy sector to thrive, stressing the importance of strategic partnerships with credible private investors.
He commended the management of MBH Power for their confidence in Ghana and declared the facility duly opened, describing it as not merely a business venture but a strategic partnership aimed at building a resilient, efficient and financially sustainable energy sector to drive national development.
