0 Former Deputy Minister for Education and Assin South MP, John Ntim Fordjour, has called for a full-scale parliamentary inquiry into the recent violence that disrupted a campus sports event, insisting that those responsible must face strict sanctions.
His comments follow disturbing incidents of student violence during school sporting activities, which left several students injured and reignited national concerns about indiscipline on campuses.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, February 23, Rev. Ntim Fordjour criticised what he described as a recurring pattern where violent incidents are reduced to mere statements without accountability.
According to the lawmaker, Parliament will formally take up the matter to ensure lasting reforms.
He argued that repeated violence during student activities, particularly sporting events, points to deeper systemic failures in supervision, enforcement of codes of conduct, and campus security arrangements.
“This particular matter, Parliament will take interest in it. I will be calling for a joint committee between the Policing Committee and the Defence and Interior Committee to look into it, so that we tackle the aspects of security and then we tackle the aspects of supervision, control, and the code of conduct and the part of its enforcement, so that we can put these together and resolve these matters for sure — that it becomes a thing of the past where students go for sports and it ends up becoming violent.”
Rev. Ntim Fordjour also criticised situations where some teachers allegedly fail to adequately monitor students during major events, allowing disorder to escalate into violence without consequences.
“We just thank God that nobody lost their life,” he noted, warning that failure to act decisively could one day result in fatalities.
He emphasised that sanctions must be applied without fear or favour, stressing that students found culpable, as well as any negligent officials, should be held accountable to deter future misconduct.
