0 The Founder and Creative Director of Bullhaus Entertainment, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, well known as Bullgod, has given a detailed account of what actually transpired between dancehall artistes Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
According to Shatta Wale’s former manager, his artiste needed to visit the washroom and meet his father, who was seated in front at the time. When he eventually decided to walk there, Stonebwoy was coincidentally announced.
Bullgod narrated the incident during an interview with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime’s Changes show.
“At the time, Shatta was looking for the washroom. That’s what I know and I think at the time they needed to go, that was when Stonebwoy was announced as the Artiste of the Year. If you understand the sitting arrangement at the Dome, you would find it very difficult and again Shatta moves with a storm. He’s not like your regular guy who can sneak and go. Also, at the time, his dad was seated at the front and he was supposed to be seated with his dad. The dad had a dignitary he wanted him to meat but he came with his boys, paid them and sat at the back with them. So when the advert was rolling, he decided to use the washroom and see his dad. I don’t even know if they made their way to the washroom but I’m sure they were heading towards the dad and Stonebwoy and his team were up there,” he explained.
Unfortunately, Stonebwoy’s team reacted wrongly, which could have been avoided.
“If you go back and watch the video, Stonebwoy himself was not jittery until when the whole thing started going haywire. That’s when the gun pulling and everything happened.”
However, he noted that both artistes have moved on from the incident, as it is now a thing of the past, adding that they are cousins.
Back Story
Camps of the two rival artistes clashed on stage while Stonebwoy was about to give a speech after winning the coveted Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year at the music awards in 2019.
The brawl started when Shatta Wale (Charles Nii Armah Mensah) walked up to the stage with his multitude of fans while Stonebwoy was about to give a speech for the award.
Although some have said the My Level hitmaker climbed up the stage with his fans to congratulate Stonebwoy for the award, others thought they were there to heckle Stonebwoy.
Stonebwoy, apologised for the brawl when he came back on stage. Shatta Wale on the other hand, later posted on his Twitter handle that the fight on stage was a disgrace to Ghana’s music industry.
The confusion that ensued was witnessed by millions of Ghanaians watching the show at the time.
Stonebwoy, known in private life as Livingstone Etse Satekla, also pulled a gun on stage in what some believe he did in self-defense.
The altercation between the two musicians remains part of history in Ghana’s music industry.
