0 The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has criticised the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he described as an “irresponsible” handling of investigations into alleged vote buying during the party’s presidential primaries.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, Mr. Boakye said the timing and manner of the OSP’s public statements raised questions about fairness and consistency.
“What the OSP did is even more irresponsible. Why don’t we talk about it? We already had the presidential primaries a week or so ago. Nothing came from the OSP immediately after the Ayawaso East NDC primary, and then they issued a statement. That statement was very irresponsible,” he said.
The comments come after the OSP announced on February 8, 2026, that it had commenced investigations into alleged vote buying during the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, as well as the NDC parliamentary primaries at Ayawaso East on February 7, 2026.
Mr. Boakye argued that the OSP’s decision to highlight certain allegations while appearing to delay scrutiny of others created the impression of selective enforcement.
“In the open paragraph, talking about NPP… because they wanted to engage in some equalization mechanism. That is why I felt that statement was very irresponsible,” he added.
He also addressed claims regarding vote inducements during the NPP presidential primaries, emphasising that monetary amounts reportedly offered to delegates were exaggerated and not enough to influence outcomes.
“If somebody comes and gives 100 Ghana cedis as transportation, it is not enough. Five hundred cedis cannot induce anyone to vote in a particular way,” Mr. Boakye said.
