Firefighters from the Anfoega and Kpando Fire Stations of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully prevented a potential disaster after a petroleum tanker was involved in a road accident at Aveme Junction, Anfoega.

In a Facebook post, the GNFS noted that the distress call came in at 5:06 a.m., reporting that the tanker, with registration number GT 5872–23, had veered off the road due to a brake defect.

“Although the tanker was not carrying fuel at the time, the swift and coordinated action by the fire crews eliminated any risk of explosion.

Firefighters secured the area, managed traffic flow, and worked with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to disconnect nearby low-voltage power lines, ensuring safety for road users and nearby residents.”

The tanker, which sustained damage to its diesel tank, bumpers, front right tyre, and headlights, was later towed to safety.

The situation was brought under control, and the road was reopened shortly afterward.
