0 The JUSTMOH Construction Limited, the contractor working on the 23-kilometre Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta dual carriageway project, has expressed concern about some incidents of attacks on its workers by residents in some communities along the road.
Safety Manager for the company, Isaac Kwakye Asare, said the recurring incidents put the safety of the workers at risk and affected the progress of work.
Speaking to journalists, he said these attacks had happened at Beahu and Bokoro communities, where some individuals confronted their workers during construction hours, injuring some of them in the process.
He said: “We have been encountering pockets of attacks along the project’s corridor; they are numerous, but we try our best to contain our tempers.”
On what caused these attacks, Mr Asare said: “You will see us working on one lane, and then open the other lane to public traffic, and suddenly you will see the motorists and others maneuvering into where we are working, and when you advise them against their behaviour, then they pounce on you.”
He said, despite engaging in community sensitisation activities to ensure the people cooperated with them while work progressed on the project, some of them continued to disrupt the workers.
“Our workers sometimes work under fear and panic within some of these communities, and this clearly affects the progress of work on the project,” he added.
Mr Asare said the incidents had been reported to the police; however, no arrests had been made.
He, therefore, cautioned those involved in the attacks to desist from the acts, so they could work under a conducive environment to help complete the project ahead of schedule.
Meanwhile, Project Manager for JUSTMOH Construction Ltd, Johan Prinsloo, said the project was progressing steadily, and that they had completed all major earthworks, concrete work, culverts, and bridges, among others.
He stated that they would expedite work to finish the entire dualisation project ahead of schedule by the middle of the year.
