0 The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr John Abdulai Jinapor, has engaged representatives of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) following concerns raised by workers over the proposed merger of the Energy Commission and the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, February 14, Dr Jinapor said the engagement was to address anxieties surrounding the proposal and to clarify the government’s approach to reforms in the power sector.
He assured the union that no merger would be carried out without extensive consultations and consensus among all stakeholders.
The Minister explained that while the government is pursuing reforms to improve efficiency and strengthen regulatory oversight in the energy sector, such changes would not be imposed unilaterally.
He stressed that dialogue, transparency, and mutual understanding would guide the process.
Dr Jinapor added that the government would continue to engage organised labour, including the PSWU, as well as other stakeholders, as discussions progress.
He emphasised that consensus-building would remain central to decision-making on the proposed Energy Commission–PURC merger.
