0 President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed.
This follows allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency, which he won.
In a statement issued on February 7, 2026, by the Presidency Communications Unit, the directive comes in response to claims that delegates were induced in the course of the party’s internal elections, in which Mr Baba Jamal was a candidate.
According to the Presidency, while allegations of vote-buying were made against multiple contestants, Mr Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among those who participated in the primary, making his situation distinct.
“The President noted that, while the allegations of vote-buying were made against multiple candidates who contested the primaries, Baba Jamal was the only serving public officer among them,” the statement said.
President Mahama also acknowledged a public statement by the NDC’s General Secretary indicating that the party has commenced its own internal investigations into the allegations arising from the primaries.

Mr Jamal Mohammed Ahmed had already defended the distribution of television sets to delegates, insisting that the gesture was not intended to influence voting decisions.

The campaign team of aspirant Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed offered 32-inch televisions to delegates who took part in the parliamentary primary in the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The Jubilee House statement stressed that the recall is not intended to prejudice ongoing internal party processes, but is guided by the standards of conduct expected of public officers and the need to protect the integrity of public office.

“Strictly in view of the standards of conduct expected of public officers, the President considers it necessary to act decisively to preserve the integrity of public office and to avoid any perception of impropriety or conflict with the Government’s Code of Conduct for Political Appointees,” the Presidency noted.
The recall takes immediate effect. The Minister for Foreign Affairs has been directed to initiate the necessary administrative and diplomatic procedures to implement the decision.
