0 German Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg have strengthened their defensive ranks with the signing of Ghanaian centre-back Jonas Adjetey during the January transfer window.
The 22-year-old defender has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract with the Wolves after completing a move from Swiss giants FC Basel.
Adjetey arrives in Germany with an impressive pedigree, having played a key role in Basel’s league and cup double triumph last season. His consistency and physical presence at the back earned him recognition both domestically and in European competitions.
Speaking after completing the move, Adjetey expressed his excitement about taking the next step in his career:
“It means a lot to me to be in the Bundesliga now and to take this step with VfL Wolfsburg. I’m looking forward to getting started right away and will invest everything every day so that we can achieve the results we need together,” he told the club’s media team.
Wolfsburg Sporting Director Pirmin Schwegler praised the Ghanaian defender’s qualities, describing him as strong, quick and decisive in tackles.
“Jonas is a very strong physical player, fast and good in tackles. He brings exactly the qualities we need for our defence,” Schwegler said.
“At FC Basel, he proved himself both in the league and internationally over the past three and a half years. We have high hopes for Jonas and are convinced that he will strengthen our team immediately.”
During his time at Basel, Adjetey made 73 competitive appearances, including six in European competitions.
At international level, he was a key figure in Ghana’s qualification campaign for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making seven appearances for the four-time African champions.
