The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) on Friday, 30th January, inaugurated the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) chapter of the Immigration Ladies Association (IMMILAC) in Accra.

The event brought together over two hundred female officers to celebrate the new chapter under the theme, “Women in Motion: Inspiring Change and Driving Progress.”

At the launch, the National President of IMMILAC, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration (DCOI) Maud Anima Quainoo, administered the oath of office to the leadership of the KIA IMMILAC chapter.

The executive team comprises a President and Vice President, Secretary and Deputy Secretary, Treasurer, Organiser and Deputy Organiser, Porters, a Christian Chaplain and Deputy, as well as a Muslim Chaplain.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, the newly sworn-in KIA IMMILAC President, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI) Yaa Foriwaa Opoku Agyemang, lauded the association and encouraged members to unite in giving their best service at the airport.

She also highlighted the importance of gender equality, stressing that the association is essential for advancing the professional development of women within the service.

Addressing the occasion, the Commander of the KIA Immigration Command, DCOI Dr Noah Ahomka Yeboah, noted that the KIA IMMILAC chapter had been inactive for some time, but the service deemed it necessary to revitalise the group.

“The KIA IMMILAC chapter has existed for some time but had waned, so we decided to re-launch the association to position it properly to deliver on its mandate,” he said.

He emphasised the importance of having such a group at the airport, noting that women play a crucial role in the success of every sector and deserve recognition within the service.

He urged members not to view the inauguration merely as an occasion for dressing up, dancing, and socialising, but to channel the energy and commitment demonstrated during the event into the development of the association and the KIA Command, ultimately contributing to the betterment of Ghana.
