Heath Goldfields has pledged to transform the Bogoso-Prestea Mine into a profitable and sustainable operation that delivers tangible benefits to host communities, seeking to overturn what it describes as a long-standing perception that mining leaves local people worse off.

Speaking at a thanksgiving ceremony attended by workers, company executives, traditional leaders and other stakeholders, Managing Director Patrick Appiah Mensah said the new owners are determined to ensure that mining activities translate into development for communities surrounding the mine.

“Our resolve is to change the narrative,” Mensah said, adding that Heath Goldfields aims to demonstrate that Ghanaian-led management can successfully operate and revive the mine while prioritising sustainability and community development.

He also called on employees to recommit to the mine’s revival, urging them to set aside grievances and work collectively to restore profitability, which he said would ultimately benefit the wider Bogoso-Prestea area.

Traditional authorities welcomed the takeover, describing it as a turning point after years of economic hardship following the mine’s closure.
