Mohamed Salah’s penalty earned Egypt a 1–0 victory over South Africa as the seven-time champions secured qualification to the knockout stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a game to spare, despite playing the entire second half with 10 men.
Salah converted a controversially awarded spot-kick in the 45th minute to put the Pharaohs ahead, but Egypt were reduced to 10 players moments later when right-back Mohamed Hany was shown a second yellow card during first-half stoppage time at the Grand Stade d’Agadir on Friday, December 26.
