Music meets mobile money as MTN MoMo champions digital payments
By Stanley Senya
Accra, Oct. 21, GNA – MobileMoney Fintech Limited (MMFL), operators of MTN MoMo, has used the 2026 MoMoFest x ShattaFest to promote cashless payments, financial inclusion and fraud prevention among festivalgoers and traders.
The event, held at the Accra Sports Stadium, integrated digital financial services into entertainment, allowing patrons to use the MoMo App to pay for food, clothing and other products.
The initiative sought to encourage the use of mobile money in everyday transactions while helping traders experience the benefits of digital payments in a busy commercial environment.
MMFL also educated festivalgoers and vendors on fraud prevention, including safeguarding their accounts, identifying scams and adopting safe digital financial practices.
Mr Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MMFL, said the partnership leveraged entertainment’s influence to encourage young people to explore business opportunities and support entrepreneurship.
The 2026 edition builds on a partnership established at ShattaFest 2025 at Independence Square, bringing together the entertainment and financial technology sectors to promote digital finance among young people.
The collaboration with dancehall artiste Shatta Wale and his management team seeks to use the popularity of entertainment to introduce digital financial services to wider audiences.
For traders, mobile money offers an alternative to cash, potentially reducing cash-handling risks, simplifying payment collection and providing transaction records to support sales monitoring.
The initiative also demonstrated how entertainment events could provide practical platforms for consumers and businesses to experience digital payments.
However, sustained adoption would depend on reliable network services, affordable transaction charges and consumer confidence in digital financial services.
MMFL said the success of the 2026 edition had created prospects for expanding the MoMoFest x ShattaFest model to other markets in the region.
