A senior officer in charge of Public Relations at the Trades Union Congress (TUC) Naa Ayeley Ardayfio, Sekyerem, has said the move to sell the hotels of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) should concern everybody.<\/strong><\/p>\n

She stated the SSNIT issues affect every single Ghanaian.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll of us should be interested in the issue of the sake of SSNIT hotels ..This deal hasn\u2019t gone through yet but we are all seeing the move to push it through quickly,\u201d she said on the Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, May 25.<\/p>\n

She added \u201cThere is no way organized labor will let anything sip through when it\u2019s not in the interests of workers.\u201d<\/p>\n

North Tongu Member of Parliament Sanule Okudzeto Ablakwa had petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to probe the sale of six hotels including\u00a0\u00a0Labadi Beach Hotel<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0La Palm Royal Beach<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Resort,\u00a0\u00a0Elmina Beach Resort<\/span><\/a>, Ridge Royal Hotel,\u00a0\u00a0Busua Beach Resort<\/span><\/a>, and the Trust Lodge Hotel to the lawmaker who is also the Minster of Food and Agriculture Bryan Acheampong.<\/p>\n

Ablakwa is also seeking an investigation into various allegations, including conflict of interest, abuse of power, lack of due process, procurement breaches, cronyism, and graft.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my petition, I am inviting CHRAJ to investigate grave matters bothering on conflict of interest, abuse of power, lack of due process, procurement breaches, cronyism, and graft.\u201d<\/div>\n

\u201cI have also drawn attention to blatant violations of Article 78(3) and 98(2) of the 1992 Constitution as diligent checks from Parliament\u2019s Committee on Office of Profit reveal that Hon. Bryan Acheampong has not applied and does not have the permission of the Speaker of Parliament to hold an office of profit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

SSNIT had stated that it is seeking to partner with a strategic investor to raise capital to invest in the hotels, and also assist in their management.<\/p>\n

SSNIT in responding to Mr Ablakwa said the primary objective of finding a strategic investor is to increase efficiency, profitability, shareholder value, and the long-term sustainability of the SSNIT Pension Scheme.<\/p>\n

But a statement issued by SSNIT management said \u201cThe Trust is seeking to partner a strategic investor to raise capital to invest in the hotels, and also assist in their management. 2. \u201cAccordingly, SSNIT went through International Competitive Tendering (ICT) processes as prescribed by the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (ACT 663), as amended by ACT 914, for the selection of a strategic investor.\u201d<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The attention of the Management of Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has been drawn to a discussion on Metro TV\u2019s Good Morning Ghana Programme on Friday, 17th May, 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The discussion partly covered SSNIT\u2019s strategic decision to divest 60% of its stake in the six (\u00a06) hotels<\/span><\/a>\u00a0in its investment portfolio.
\nThe Management of SSNIT wishes to comment as follows:<\/p>\n

1. The Trust is seeking to partner a strategic investor to raise capital to invest in the
\nhotels, and also assist in their management.
\n2. The primary objective of finding a strategic investor is to increase efficiency,
\nprofitability, shareholder value, and the long-term sustainability of the SSNIT
\nPension Scheme.
\n3. Accordingly, SSNIT went through International Competitive Tendering (ICT)
\nprocesses as prescribed by the Public Procurement Act, 2003 (ACT 663), as
\namended by ACT 914, for the selection of a strategic investor.
\n4. The Trust commenced the process with the engagement of a Transaction
\nAdvisor through the ICT method of procurement, with publication of
\nadvertisements in the Daily Graphic on 14th November, 2018 and in the Ghanaian
\nTimes on 15th November, 2018.<\/p>\n

5. The advertisement was also published in an international magazine, The Economist in its January 5-11, 2019 edition. As of January 16th, 2019 deadline, fifteen (15) firms had expressed interest in submitting bids. Of these, six (6) were shortlisted and issued with Request for Proposal (RFP) documents.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

6. Approval was sought from the Central Tender Review Committee (CTRC) for the
\nselection of a Transaction Advisor on 12th December, 2019 and that was granted
\non 24th December, 2019.
\n7. Following the selection of the independent Transaction Advisor to guide the
\nselection of a Strategic investor amongst others, further advertisements for an
\n9. Expression of Interest (EOI) for a Strategic Partner for the SSNIT Hotels were
\nplaced in the Daily Graphic on 3rd February, 2022 and in the Ghanaian Times on
\n7th February, 2022. The advertisement was also published in The Economist
\nMagazine on 26th February, 2022.<\/p>\n
