The annual continental conference of the Federation of African Law Students (FALAS) has officially opened at the African Union (AU) Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s conference marks the 5th Anniversary of the Federation and is being held in partnership with the African Union, through its Women and Youth Division.<\/p>\n

The gathering is taking place under the theme: \u201cStrengthening African Youth Leadership through Ubuntu for a United and Independent Africa \u2013 In Alignment with the 1 Million Next Level Strategy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event has drawn 250 delegates from 16 countries across the continent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a historic gathering, and the partnership with the AU is just the beginning of change-making,\u201d
said Seyram Kofi Seyram, International President of FALAS, in his opening remarks.<\/p>\n

The week-long event brings together law students, lawyers, judges, academics, and diplomats from across Africa for networking, panel discussions, and deliberations aimed at advancing legal education, youth empowerment, and continental collaboration.<\/p>\n

The conference will feature high-level panel sessions on topics such as youth leadership in governance, the role of law in achieving Agenda 2063, and Africa\u2019s digital transformation in justice delivery. Delegates will also participate in debates, moot competitions, and leadership masterclasses, all designed to sharpen their advocacy and policy skills. The event will also showcase the launch of the FALAS @5 Commemorative Magazine, a publication capturing five years of youth-led impact across Africa.<\/p>\n

The conference has also attracted notable guests and partners, including representatives from the Office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, the African Union\u2019s Women and Youth Division, and several continental bar associations. Their presence reinforces the Federation\u2019s growing recognition as a key stakeholder in Africa\u2019s legal and developmental landscape.<\/p>\n

Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, is expected to grace the event, marking a powerful moment of recognition for Africa\u2019s next generation of legal leaders. The Addis Ababa gathering is more than a conference \u2014 it is a celebration of five years of vision, resilience, and unity under the banner of Pan-Africanism.
