Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, Joshua Krakue, in charge of the Elubo Command, has reassured Ghanaians that border operations remain normal despite reports that over 1,500 Ivorians have crossed into the country to escape election-related unrest in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Joy News, DCI Krakue said all surveillance systems are operational and capable of detecting individuals with suspected terrorist connections.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut for now, everything is fine at the border. If the situation remains like this, our usual control is being maintained. And of course, we have also heightened the checks\u2026 our machines can detect elements that have terrorist connections,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that in the event of a mass influx, the immigration authorities would organise arrivals in groups to allow adequate screening of all individuals, including vulnerable populations such as pregnant women, children, and the elderly, alongside any suspected criminals.<\/p>\n

Western Regional Minister Joseph Nelson called on security personnel at the Elubo border to remain alert, especially with C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire\u2019s general election scheduled for October 25, amid fears that political tensions could trigger a larger flow of refugees.<\/p>\n

The surge of Ivorians into Ghana comes as concerns rise over the potential for cross-border security risks and humanitarian needs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Immigration authorities say they are closely monitoring the situation while ensuring that normal border operations continue.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
