The Member of Parliament for Walewale, Tia Kabiru, says that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is considering legal action to prevent Alan Kyerematen from using the United Party as the name for his newly formed political movement.<\/p>\n

According to him, the choice of name is \u201cproblematic,\u201d given that the NPP traces its political roots to the historic United Party (UP) tradition.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst and foremost, I think the Movement for Change, the name choosing is problematic because the tradition of the NPP is out of the United Party,\u201d he said in an interview.<\/p>\n

In an interview on GHOne on Thursday, Kabiru accused the former Trade Minister and his team of attempting to \u201chide under the flag\u201d of the UP tradition, suggesting that such a move could mislead the public and distort political history.<\/p>\n

He further disclosed that the party may test the legality of the name in court.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure fair-minded Ghanaians and members of the Republic will first even test it in court to find out what that name is,\u201d he noted. When asked if the NPP would pursue legal action, he responded, \u201cOf course. It is a very good case to test, to see whether that name will even stand.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Walewale MP added that he expected Alan Kyerematen and his team to have been \u201cmuch more thoughtful\u201d in selecting a name for their new political party.<\/p>\n

Alan Kyerematen, who resigned from the NPP in 2023, cited unfair treatment and internal divisions within the governing party as his reasons for breaking away.<\/p>\n

He subsequently launched the Movement for Change, campaigning on the symbol of a butterfly and calling for what he described as a \u201ctransformational leadership agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
