A tragic road accident on the Accra-Aflao\u00a0Highway, at\u00a0Awalavi\u00a0in the Ketu North Municipality of the Volta Region, has resulted in several passengers sustaining various degrees of injuries.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The accident occurred after a\u00a015-seater transit minibus with\u00a0the\u00a0registration number GT 5645-21 lost control and hit\u00a0a pavement metal along the road.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Emmanuel\u00a0Awudza, an eyewitness, who spoke to the Ghana News Agency, said that the bus, which was moving from Accra to\u00a0Aflao\u00a0at top speed,\u00a0lost control and veered off its lane before hitting the pavement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was\u00a0on\u00a0my rice farm along the Accra-Aflao\u00a0Highway, and l heard a sudden loud sound of\u00a0tyre\u00a0burst. Suddenly,\u00a0the vehicle lost control and hit the metal along the road as well,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He\u00a0said\u00a0that the driver of the vehicle was\u00a0at\u00a0a top speed and could not easily control the car after the back\u00a0tyre\u00a0burst, which resulted in the accident.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Mr\u00a0Awudza\u00a0said the driver and several passengers sustained various degrees of injuries on the head, arms,\u00a0legs,\u00a0and other body parts and were transported to the\u00a0nearby\u00a0Weta\u00a0Hospital in the municipality for medical attention.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to commend the residents of\u00a0Awalavi\u00a0for\u00a0their\u00a0kind gestures and intervention to transport the injured passengers to the\u00a0Hospital, even before the arrival of the\u00a0Afife\u00a0Police.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He appealed to drivers on the Accra-Aflao\u00a0Highway to be extra careful, particularly during nighttime and early morning travel, to avoid unfortunate\u00a0accidents\u00a0which could endanger\u00a0the lives\u00a0of passengers.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A businesswoman, Madam Sandra\u00a0Mileba, who was\u00a0a\u00a0passenger\u00a0on the bus,\u00a0told the GNA that, \u201cwe boarded\u00a0the vehicle at\u00a0Tema\u00a0roundabout and we are going to\u00a0Aflao, l can\u2019t really tell how this accident happened, but we thank God there is no fatality as at now.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

She\u00a0lamented\u00a0some\u00a0missing valuable items, such as mobile phones\u00a0of accident victims,\u00a0after the accident and appealed to the public to\u00a0assist\u00a0the\u00a0Police to launch\u00a0an investigation\u00a0into the incident.\u00a0 <\/p>\n

The Ghana Police Service\u00a0is yet\u00a0to comment on the\u00a0accident.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
