Three years ago, the Art Club at\u00a0Sogakofe\u00a0Senior High School was almost forgotten. The brushes had dried, the paints were fading, and the once-vibrant\u00a0creative space had gone silent.\u00a0But one teacher, Desmond\u00a0Assan,\u00a0saw more than dust and disinterest; he saw potential.<\/p>\n

Speaking to\u00a0Joy Prime<\/strong>\u2019s Lois Shola\u00a0Adeyemi, he recounted how the club was \u201cin a coma\u201d when he joined the school, with no active members or space to create. Driven by passion, he decided to bring it back to life.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I came here, there was no art club, and that really broke my heart. So I started it again \u2014 with just a few students who had the interest. Today, the club is alive again, and it\u2019s growing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The revival, however, hasn\u2019t come easy. Without a dedicated art studio, the students meet after class in the school garden;\u00a0a patch of open ground now turned\u00a0into their creative sanctuary.\u00a0There, under the open sky, they sketch, paint, and sculpt,\u00a0transforming ordinary moments into stories of hope and identity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe work here because we have no studio,\u201d the teacher continued. \u201cSometimes the wind blows our papers away, or it rains and we have to stop. But the passion these students have keeps us going.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of the students, Precious, shared the story behind a painting\u00a0done by her classmate,\u00a0Bismark.\u00a0She explained that his work was inspired by his childhood struggles in the Oti Region, where he and his family often went days without enough food.<\/p>\n

\u201cBismark\u00a0told me this painting reminds him of a friend named\u00a0Dziedzorm\u00a0\u2014 the one who always told him to smile, no matter what life brings. His art speaks about hope and never giving up,\u201d she said softly, standing beside his canvas.<\/p>\n

The club has served\u00a0its\u00a0purpose as many students testified the tremendous change they have seen after joining. The discipline and dedication they explained, has shaped them\u00a0leaveing\u00a0a positive mark on their other school work and subjects. Esther, also a\u00a0student\u00a0and member of the club\u00a0said being part of the club has changed her completely.<\/p>\n

\u201cBefore I joined, I didn\u2019t even know how to draw properly,\u201d she said with a shy smile. \u201cNow, I can paint, do beadwork, and express myself in ways I never thought I could. The club has taught me patience and confidence.\u201d<\/p>\n

For many of the students, art has become a language and\u00a0a way to express emotions, struggles, and dreams that words alone can\u2019t carry.\u00a0The teacher says his biggest dream is to see the students\u00a0working in a proper art studio. A\u00a0safe and inspiring space where they can freely create, display their works, and nurture their talents without fear of the weather.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey need a place they can call their own,\u201d he said. \u201cA space where they can leave their pieces, come back the next day, and continue. These children are gifted; they deserve that.\u201d<\/p>\n

From the ashes of a forgotten club, a thriving creative family has emerged. The young artists of\u00a0Sogakofe\u00a0SHS are painting hope; one brushstroke at a time.<\/p>\n
