A group calling itself Concerned Stakeholders of Ghana Swimming has obtained a court injunction from the Accra High Court, effectively halting Saturday\u2019s scheduled Ghana Swimming Association (GSA) Congress at the Accra Digital Centre.<\/p>\n

The congress, which was expected to elect new executives to run the association for the next four years, is expected to be put on hold pending the court\u2019s decision.<\/p>\n

The group \u2014 made up of Daniel Opare of the University of Ghana Sports Directorate, Rita Naa, Inez Arthur, Evelyn Nuno-Armateifio, Deborah Osei, Gideon Agyemang, and Gina Apenteng \u2014 said the injunction was served on key respondents on Friday.<\/p>\n

Those listed in the suit include the Ghana Swimming Association, its president, general secretary, treasurer, and the election committee.<\/p>\n

In a statement copied to the media, the stakeholders accused the GSA\u2019s leadership of financial irregularities, poor governance, and attempts to rig the upcoming elections. They alleged that \u201cfor over a decade, the GSA has failed and refused to produce audited accounts to the National Sports Authority or its stakeholders, in flagrant violation of Section 18 of the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 932) and Article 8 of the GSA Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n

They also challenged the integrity of the electoral process, claiming the GSA\u2019s Election Committee sought to \u201cinterpret representatives from the sixteen Regional Swimming Associations to mean representatives from only ten regions,\u201d which they described as \u201cflawed and unconstitutional.\u201d<\/p>\n

The group further alleged the illegal introduction of proxy voting and the inclusion of unrecognized clubs and associations, saying these infractions \u201cwould amount to fraud and render any elections held null and void.\u201d<\/p>\n

The stakeholders called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the National Sports Authority to dissolve the current executive council, appoint an interim management committee, and commission a forensic audit of the GSA\u2019s finances dating back to 2014.<\/p>\n

When contacted by Joy Sports, a senior member of the GSA confirmed receiving the injunction but declined to comment. A member of the Election Committee also said the injunction had not reached their desk and refused to speak on record.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
