Sean \u201cDiddy\u201d Combs was sentenced on Friday to more than four years in prison over the hip-hop mogul\u2019s July 2 conviction on prostitution-related charges.<\/p>\n

The 50-month sentence was imposed by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian at a hearing in Manhattan federal court. Combs, 55, had faced up to 20 years behind bars.<\/p>\n

He was convicted on two counts of arranging for paid male escorts to travel across state lines to take part in drug-fueled sexual performances \u2013 sometimes known as \u201cFreak Offs\u201d \u2013 with Combs\u2019 girlfriends while he recorded video and masturbated.<\/p>\n

The jury acquitted him on the more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, which could have earned him a life sentence.<\/p>\n

Those charges hinged on prosecutors\u2019 accusation that Combs used violence and threats to coerce two of his girlfriends \u2013 the rhythm and blues singer Casandra Ventura, and a woman known in court by the pseudonym Jane \u2013 to take part in the encounters.<\/p>\n

Combs pleaded not guilty and is expected to appeal his conviction. In an address to the court before Subramanian imposed the sentence, Combs apologised to Ventura and Jane and said he had learned his lesson.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know I\u2019ll never put my hands on another person again,\u201d said Combs, who has been behind bars at a Brooklyn jail since his September 2024 arrest.<\/p>\n

Combs, the founder of Bad Boy Records, is credited with elevating hip-hop\u2019s stature in American culture.<\/p>\n

The New York-born entrepreneur is one of the most prominent men in the entertainment industry to have faced trial on sex crimes charges.<\/p>\n

PROSECUTORS URGED JUDGE TO CONSIDER ABUSE<\/h2>\n

Combs\u2019 lawyers acknowledged he had physically abused his girlfriends, but argued they willingly took part in the sexual performances.<\/p>\n

Defence lawyers say the appropriate sentence is 14 months, which would mean Combs would be released by the end of the year after receiving credit for time served.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors are pushing for a sentence of at least 11-1\/4 years.<\/p>\n

At the hearing, prosecutor Christy Slavik said the defence was improperly seeking to portray Combs\u2019 conduct as a \u201cminor consequence of a sex, drugs, and rock and roll lifestyle,\u201d and argued the judge should consider his abuse of his girlfriends.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo not account for it now would be to let the defendant get away with years of domestic violence and abuse,\u201d Slavik said.<\/p>\n

Combs\u2019 defence lawyer Brian Steel said the conduct that led to the trial came while his client was in \u201ca ferocious drug addiction,\u201d and noted that he had already spent 12 months and 17 days in jail.<\/p>\n

\u201cSean has been punished severely already,\u201d Steel said.<\/p>\n

COMBS\u2019 CHILDREN PLEADED FOR LENIENCY<\/h2>\n

Before Combs spoke, his children urged leniency for their father, telling Subramanian that he has become a better man in the year since his arrest.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe aren\u2019t here to excuse any of his mistakes,\u201d Combs\u2019 18-year-old daughter Jessie Combs said through tears. \u201cBut your honour, he is still our dad, and we still need him present in our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Combs put his head down as his children spoke, and had tears in his eyes when their remarks concluded.<\/p>\n

Combs\u2019 lawyers also showed the court a video about Combs\u2019 background and philanthropy. <\/p>\n

The video showed Combs playing with his children, speaking to public school students, and running the New York Marathon to raise money for charity.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
