The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has recorded a notable improvement in its revenue collection performance in Tamale, reducing distribution losses from a high of 57% in January 2025 to 47% as of September 2025.<\/p>\n

This 10-percentage point gain has been attributed to the enhanced revenue mobilisation drive embarked upon by the current management team.<\/p>\n

NEDCo\u2019s Managing Director, Ing. Yamoah, described the progress as a clear indication of growing public cooperation and the commitment of the company\u2019s revenue task teams.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis achievement is encouraging, but we are still far from our target. We need even greater collaboration from residents and traditional leaders to improve revenue collection and ensure reliable power supply across our operational zones,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He stressed that revenue generation remained vital, as it ensured the company could pay power producers and invest in the infrastructure required to guarantee stable electricity supply.<\/p>\n

While acknowledging the progress, Ing. Yamoah cautioned that significant challenges remained, particularly in areas with high incidences of illegal electricity connections.<\/p>\n

Such activities, he explained, not only undermined NEDCo\u2019s revenue generation but also placed immense strain on power infrastructure, often leading to transformer failures.<\/p>\n

\u201cIllegal connections cause transformers to overload, which often leads to them blowing up. This disrupts power supply, inconveniences entire communities, and increases maintenance costs. We are appealing to those involved in such practices to stop immediately, not just because it is illegal, but because it hurts all of us,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n

The Managing Director reaffirmed NEDCo\u2019s commitment to improving service delivery but stressed that sustainable progress would depend on customer compliance, timely payment of bills, and a joint effort to curb power theft.<\/p>\n

As part of its strategy, the company is rolling out a community engagement programme, working in partnership with traditional authorities, local leaders and residents to raise awareness about the economic and social impact of illegal connections and non-payment of electricity bills.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
