South Africa\u2019s ambassador to France has been found dead at the foot of a high-rise hotel in Paris, hours after he was reported missing, prosecutors in the city told CNN.<\/p>\n

Nkosinathi Emmanuel \u201cNathi\u201d Mthethwa was \u201cdiscovered directly below\u201d a Hyatt Hotel in Paris on Tuesday, according to the prosecutor\u2019s office, which added that the envoy had booked a room on the 22nd floor. <\/p>\n

The secure window in the room \u201cwas forced open,\u201d the office said, adding that the duty magistrate was on scene.<\/p>\n

Mthethwa\u2019s wife had reported him missing on Monday, saying she had received a \u201cdisturbing message\u201d from him, according to the prosecutor\u2019s office.<\/p>\n

CNN has reached out to the Hyatt Group of hotels and the Hyatt Regency, but has not received any comment.<\/p>\n

South Africa\u2019s foreign ministry confirmed Mthethwa\u2019s death \u201cwith deep sorrow and profound regret\u201d in a statement on Tuesday, expressing condolences to the ambassador\u2019s family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have no doubt that his passing is not only a national loss but is also felt within the international diplomatic community,\u201d South Africa\u2019s Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola said, according to Tuesday\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n

Mthethwa, 58, was appointed ambassador to France in December 2023.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
