Accra, June 9, GNA \u2013\u00a0President John Dramani Mahama will undertake a comprehensive review of ministers and state CEOs, with the outcome expected to guide decisions on retention, reassignment, and possible Cabinet or executive restructuring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This was contained in a statement issued by Dr Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, who also cautioned ministers, CEOs of state institutions, and other political appointees against participating in private awards schemes and related events.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the statement, public officials should devote their full attention to the execution of their mandates and the delivery of results for the people of Ghana rather than seeking or participating in external recognition schemes of questionable credibility.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The President, the statement noted, had observed with concern the growing trend of ministers, chief executive officers of state institutions, and other public officials accepting awards from private\u00a0organisations\u00a0that claim to\u00a0recognise\u00a0them as the \u201cbest-performing,\u201d \u201cmost outstanding,\u201d or \u201cmost influential\u201d public office holders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIn many instances, the\u00a0organisations\u00a0conferring such awards are largely unknown to the public, their credentials are unclear, and no transparent, objective, or verifiable criteria exist for assessing the performance of public officials,\u201d the statement said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It warned that the proliferation of such awards could undermine the integrity of public service, create misconceptions about government performance assessment, and expose the Government to unnecessary public criticism and embarrassment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The statement stressed that public office is a solemn responsibility entrusted to officials by the people of Ghana and that performance cannot be measured through privately\u00a0organised\u00a0ceremonies, self-appointed rating bodies, or commercial award schemes whose methodologies and standards are neither established nor subject to public scrutiny.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Consequently, President Mahama directed all ministers of state, chief executive officers of state institutions, and other political appointees to refrain from participating in, sponsoring, endorsing, attending, or accepting awards from such\u00a0organisations\u00a0unless expressly\u00a0authorised\u00a0by the Office of the President.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Government, the statement said, remains focused on delivering on its commitments to the people of Ghana.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It explained that the true measure of the performance of ministers and chief executive officers lies\u00a0in\u00a0the extent to which they achieve the policy objectives,\u00a0programmes, and sector-specific targets outlined in the 2024 National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto, the Government\u2019s development agenda, and performance indicators agreed upon with their respective supervising authorities.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Accordingly, ministers and chief executive officers were reminded that their performance would be assessed based on tangible outcomes, measurable impact, effective service delivery, prudent management of public resources, and the successful implementation of Government policies and\u00a0programmes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The statement expressed appreciation for their cooperation and adherence to the directive.\u00a0<\/p>\n
