A major review of utility tariffs is expected to take effect from January 2026, as part of the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO) being undertaken by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).<\/p>\n

Joy Business sources familiar with the discussions confirm that the review will serve as a key regulatory exercise aimed at aligning tariffs with long-term sector needs.<\/p>\n

The MYTO framework provides regulatory certainty for planning while allowing periodic adjustments based on prevailing economic conditions and performance indicators. <\/p>\n

This latest review will focus on the significant long-term investments made by utility companies and explore measures to help recover capital already committed.<\/p>\n

To this end, the PURC has commenced stakeholder engagements across the country to ensure that any new agreements reached receive the necessary industry approval. <\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the Commission opened consultations on the Multi-Year Tariff Order for 2025\u20132030 during a stakeholder session in Accra. <\/p>\n

Electricity and water providers have been pushing for notable tariff increases to sustain their operations.<\/p>\n

Quarterly Tariff Adjustments Still Pending<\/strong><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, sources caution that this development is separate from the Quarterly Utility Tariff Adjustment, which the PURC could also announce soon. <\/p>\n

It remains unclear whether, in light of the January review, the regulator will proceed with the next quarterly adjustment, scheduled for early next month.<\/p>\n

The quarterly review is guided by inflation, cedi performance, and the cost of crude oil and finished petroleum products. <\/p>\n

While most of these variables have been declining, the cedi has come under pressure in the past two months, raising questions about how this trend might influence the upcoming adjustment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
