The Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, has assured drivers and traders at the Railways enclave near the Cocoa Marketing Board (CMB) that no developer would take over their lorry station.<\/p>\n

Speaking during a visit to the area on Wednesday after the protest, Mayor Allotey categorically denied selling any portion of the land to private developers, stressing that the president was committed to protecting the interests of transport operators and traders.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the Mayor of Accra, I have not sold any land to anybody. If anyone claims the land has been sold to him or her, they should bring the documentation,\u201d he said, assuring the traders that \u201cNo one will take over your lorry station, not today or tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Mayor revealed that President John Dramani Mahama had directed him to convey the government\u2019s assurance that the land was for the government and urged the said private developer to reclaim his money from whoever purportedly sold the land, emphasising that \u201cno construction will be allowed here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mayor Allotey called on drivers and traders to engage the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) or the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) whenever such issues arise.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am the government\u2019s representative in Accra. Bring your concerns to me first before taking any action,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n

A representative of the drivers apologised for not consulting the Mayor or the AMA before embarking on the protest and acknowledged that the Mayor had no hand in any sale of land.<\/p>\n

He clarified that their intention was to seek the government\u2019s intervention and not to cast the AMA in a bad light.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
