Minister for Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has said that resuming the operations of the Aayalolo bus service will require significant financial resources.<\/p>\n

Answering questions from journalists at the Government Accountability Series, the Minister clarified that the service is not directly under the Transport Ministry but under the Ministry of Local Government. However, he said there is a need for collaboration to restore the service.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Aayalolo bus services do not lie under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport. They are under the Ministry of Local Government, but we are also aware that we need to collaborate to ensure that we provide that kind of transport for our people,\u201d he explained on Wednesday, September 17.<\/p>\n

He noted that some of the key challenges include terminals being taken over by hawkers and the buses requiring heavy investment before they can return to the road.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have had talks with the Minister just to improve their operations. One of the things we are going to do is to look at the terminal by the AMA that has been taken over by hawkers and other people. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe have visited the places and assured that we will get the Aayalolo buses to run. The other issue is that a lot of them will require huge sums of money to put them back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further said he believes that efforts are underway to secure new fleets to support the operations and restore public confidence in the service. <\/p>\n
